Samantha is the resident philosopher at Spring Hill. The first day she arrived, she politely told me her name was Sam not Samantha. She clarified that point by saying “It makes perfect sense to use 3 letters instead of 8, when signing my name. Everyone knows how to spell Sam but they always misspell Samantha. So it is better if my name is Sam.”
So I obliged and said I would be happy to call her Sam. For that, I got a big smile of appreciation. It’s always so important to start out on a good note the first day and that was easy. The days to come made me wish for a child who was a little less logical and more a bit more childish. But that doesn’t make much sense, does it?
