Back to School

If you are wondering why I have not posted anything on my blog lately, (and I am sure you are Ha ha ha) I have been taking 2 classes on line! Thus the picture of the gorilla, wondering what in the world she has done!

I thought I was done with organized education many years ago, but I couldn’t help myself!!!! I still have this urge to learn and not let my mind wither and shrink to the size of a walnut. But I should have done just one, but that’s just not my style!

I am learning how to use several types of software to do my own layouts. The other course is about the expanding world of social media. Two different subjects but linked together by the theme of learning and functioning in our ever expanding world of internet connections. My brain is sooooo full and I encourage others to find something they are interested in and take a class! Let’s fight getting older!

The Importance of Face to Face Conversation

image

I just read a well written article on a site called  – art of manliness.com. It is a powerful illustration of how important it is to have regular face to face conversations. And not just a superficial “hello” or “how’s the Yankees this year” ha ha. But real conversations that matter.

The crux of the article is in regards to the friendship that developed between JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis over time. They shared much in common but were divided in regards to God. Tolkien was a devoted Catholic and Lewis was a self proclaimed atheist, according to the article.

Unlike folks today, they did not shy away from the topic of religion. They discussed it. They shared their views and ideas with each other, even though there was a big divide in their beliefs. Then they spent time apart and thought about what each had shared and what they had learned.

If they had not been willing to talk about who they were, what they believed and shared it, we would have never have had such wonderful stories as the Chronicles of Narnia. No Asuland? How horrible!!! And so many more very important works that CS Lewis wrote after his acceptance of Christ and his salvationn

What are we losing as a people, a nation and a world, by only taking about Accepted and Safe topics? Everything that makes us unique and special. And that is a tragic loss!

Please spend time today, face to face, with cell phones off and stored away, talking to people, even those that don’t believe exactly the same way you do. It is only by Real communication that we exchange ideas and have growth. Who knows you may learn something and have fun too!

The “Guard Dogs” that protect me

image

Some folks have huge, fierce dogs to guard their homes. However, mine are just slightly smaller! The one at the door is about 15 lbs but in her heart, she is a mighty Great Dane guarding the castle door. Ready to sound the alarm even if it is just a neighbors cat or a falling leaf. Alas, it’s a good thing there are no dragons at the castle door or they would be terrified by my 2 fierce dogs!

Halloween is Here – Thank Goodness Jayk is here!

2015-10-24 17.03.17
I hope everyone is having a fun and safe Halloween despite the rain and cold wind outside. So confusing when it was sunny and amazing yesterday?
But never fear, Jayk is here! He is my next door neighbors cool black cat that slinks around our yards protecting us from chipmunks, mice, snakes, foxes, and even a young bobcat this spring!!! He is small but absolutely FEARLESS!
So, no matter what happens this Halloween, I know that trusty Jayk will keep me safe!
Enjoy this Spooky night!

I Became a Geek for a Weekend!!!

imageimage

Huntsville, Al was the host for the 33rd Con-Stellation convention this weekend. My husband is the ultimate Sci-Fi Geek and truth be told, I grew up loving watching Star Trek! Ha. So, I had a great time meeting writers and artists of a totatally different different genre. The highlights were meeting Orson Scott Card author (Ender’s Game) and Sam Flegal artist of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. I  gave Orson Scott Card one of my books for his little granddaughter (who has the bad habit of hitting other little ones) and I gave another one Sam Flegal for is little 5 year old girl. I love making people happy by sharing my books!
